Re: ROS should take-over the missing Win32/Win9x flatform

Just which applications from the pre-NT days would you actually need? Modern programs are written for NT 5.x (2000, XP, Server 2003) or 6.x (Vista or Server 2008). Most of my old programs (from the bygone days of Windows ME) work just great on Windows XP, the sole exceptions being Doom 1+2 and Quake...

Re: PS3

Well, purpose built or not, any console with a harddrive can be booted with an OS, LiveCD or not, if the OS is geared to booting with such hardware. You'll probably be able to boot into the OS, but you won't be able to use the specialised hardware [to it's fullest potential/properly/at all] without...

Re: PS3

Wikipedia link for convenience. Ohhh, I see: 512 MB built-in NAND flash memory 3 MB embedded GPU texture memory and framebuffer. Still doesn't compensate for the low processing power. Essentially, it has no underlying OS taking up resources. Also, the hardware is purpose-built, rather than generali...

Re: Security features in ReactOS?

Well, seeing as ReactOS will be compatible as an NT4 OS... (WinXP is NT5) I'm going to be annoying and picky and point out that it is Windows 2000 that is NT 5.0, with most versions of XP using an NT 5.1 kernel. Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Professional x64 use an NT 5.2 codebase. As for fire...

Re: Can we expext a new release one of these days ?

It's essentially the old, old saying:
On time. No bugs. Pick one.
I'm happy to choose the latter, especially since there are the SVN builds to play with in the meanwhile.

Re: Remove the greatest weeknes of Windows

Hello, and welcome to the ReactOS forums.

The idea of removing the registry has been discussed before, in this thread.

Re: Thread/Process Scheduling in ReactOS

You might want to try dropping by the ReactOS IRC channel, since that is where the devs live. You'll get a response quicker that way.

I've noticed that operating systems essentially use EITHER a logo or a mascot, but not both. Windows -Logo: Windows flag. -Mascot: None. MacOSX -Logo: An apple. -Mascot: None. GNU -Icon: None. -Mascot: A gnu. Linux -Logo: None. -Mascot: Tux the Penguin. BSD -Logo: None. -Mascot: Beastie. AROS -Logo:...

Re: ReactOS on VirtualBox

Got the file unpacked and installed it in place of the 0.3.4. It seems the install software function is inactive, thus I am not able to do anything. I think that this is because Download! isn't included in SVN builds. Your best bet is to install software the usual way. When using QEMU, I burn the F...
