What is ROS BootLogo video mode?

I'm testing ROS on VirtualPC 2007. Everything is working using VGA 640x480x4bit. Seem menus and program execution is fast but mouse, desktop and explorer is slow heavily. But, I noticed, during booting the OS, it show ROS Logo in high colors before loading the desktop in 16 colors, the only option f...

Re: Why ReactOS is failing in Virtual PC?

It seem the most issue with ROS can't load inside VPC is it's non-VESA emulated display adapter (S3). As I found it too that the booting stop when it found no VESA supported by the emulator. Wouldn't this is an old issue? If I'm not mistaken, isn't that ROS now has VGA standard added into the OS? So...

Why ReactOS is failing in Virtual PC?

Is it because ROS hasn't reach binary compatibility that almost all MS OSes had such as from DOS thru Win7 able to run on VPC? Or it is simply because there is no drivers for ROS to survive visualization under VPC? I just wish there were more discussion about what is require for ROS to run on VPC. I...

Re: ReactOS on ARM, a niche to fill?

The app may run happilly, but the user will watch sadly the slow performance of ARM cores slowed even further by x86 emulation. What do you expect? Kill the ROS ARM project? Without an x86 VM, every single system binary files in ROS need to be converted into ARM machine codes. It doesn't promise th...

Re: ReactOS Scripting Engines(e.g Python engine)

ROS don't need a scripting engine. It need a visual app programming IDE and a compiler. Even a kid could write an application in ROS. A good example is App Inventor for Android. If something like that could be ported into ROS to take advantages of batch scripting and implemented Win32 libraries, a l...

Re: OS standardizing the hardware driver

I prefer the OS standardizing the drivers over the specific group of device driver developers. Then the other OS developer could use the same techniques and share their improvement back to the OS maker community. Thing will get interesting when let say the OS able to access the GPU and take the adva...

Re: ReactOS on ARM, a niche to fill?

With Windows RT (Windows 8 for ARM) coming with a fully functioning classic desktop (primarily for office) but with no way to install and no official way to compile "classic" applications for ARM, ReactOS may have a viable niche to fill. If ReactOS was to get a viable ARM port that's binary compati...

OS standardizing the hardware driver

I wish there will an OS that provide a new universal standard to access connected hardware such as monitor, keyboard, mouse, USB, printer or else and the manufacture will build their product around it. So, every new hardware introduce to the market can be connected to this OS without require any ver...

Re: ReactOS Scripting Engines(e.g Python engine)

Why not a combination of AJAX. CSS and JaveScript? The opensource structure already on the Net, just make it natively available to ROS with an easy to learn and use version. What is left to do is to make a ROS scripting IDE to speed up the scripting project. My guesses, that is what Android and Wind...

Re: Arm Development and Raspberry pi

I think Linux and BSD couldn't cut a mustard for Windows users. No point mentioning to us repeatedly because we were majority OS users want Win32 based OS. Developers time is not the core problem ROS take so long to evolve. To find the different method doing the same thing as Windows OS is where lie...

RSS Feed for Compatibility Recent Submissions please

It's very useful to have a RSS feed for the latest compatibility entries. Users definitely keep looking to what software and which version mostly stable running under current version of ReactOS.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Install and Live CD Locking Up

I believe there are some differing chips that use the same ID. So installing on a system with a similar but incompatible sound chip can potentially cause ReactOS to crash at startup. The bootcd-xxxxx-dbgwin.7z builds do not include the VirtualBox sound driver. I don't believe that would be the case...

Re: Install and Live CD Locking Up

My finding was, the audio framework is broken. If you want to test a LiveCD use release version. If you want to test the HD installation, use dbg version. The release bootcd never let you pass the first boot after installation. But the dbg version also had a bobby trap, don't install the audio drive...

Re: ReactOS cannot load driver

"ReactOS cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code: 39)" Here is my finding, the audio driver framework is broken or disabled in all trunk version. But in your situation, at first boot of the OS you click "finish" button when the audio driver not...

Re: Loading boot drivers..... (and blackout)

I had similar problem installing ReactOS from BootCD since Rel 0.3.13 and all the trunk build using QEMU (old and new). The first HD boot loading device drivers like a forever. until I give up and close QEMU. There is a certain trunk build LiveCD that I've test show some nice speed under QEMU, So, I...
