Re: Blog: Machining Virtually

I read somewhere a few years back, can't remembered where, some developers preferred using NT4 in a VM instead to check whats leak and whats not. They even don't trust anything above that version that has some kind of filters to hide some mess of any malfunctions traces. Users of the OS lost some co...

Re: Blog: Advancing the TODO list...

Around the same time, I also started looking into the menubar, and how the CDefView and ShellBrowser interact. I decided to dump part of the menu-related code, which was recreating the whole menu every time the user clicked on the window. In its place, I put some temporary code that empties the men...

Re: EPIC WIN!

Unfortunately ROS crashed while using Firefox and it's directory is corrupted. Can't be uninstalled, removed, or overwritten... even using the terminal the OS freezes trying to access the \Mozilla Firefox directory. The above hazardous event I can confirm it is not ReactOS bug. It's Firefox setting...

Suggestion: ROS Bootloader + Virtual CD (ISO reader)

When testing on a real hardware, it would be much easier to test a LiveCD or Installing ROS when user could have the ISO file from the same hard disk. The idea is ROS Bootloader image written into an empty hard disk with a copy of LiveCD ISO and/or Installation CD ISO. The Bootloader Image is the sa...

Re: Does ReactOS only run inside a VM?

No drivers = No future! Simple equation how to go forward. Developer had to work with SBC manufactures or employ a Hardware hacker to work with a driver programmer. Drivers is the essential of the OS core. The OS core is the priority to be completed. ROS had to decide what driver architecture they w...

Re: Why is it taking so long?

I don't care what ROS look like or what it's GUI made of. As long as it works seamlessly with win32 apps, drivers and connectivity, it's all I need. Users always can put other GUI theme as they like. But the working core is everyone waiting for so long. Doesn't matter what architecture drive them, a...

Re: ROS testing on real hardware

Once ROS load without a problem on VPC, the OS almost certainly would run on most of real hardware old and new without a problem. It may also even run on any other virtual machine application without a hiccup too. That's a very strong assertion. What evidence do you have to back it up? Did I the on...

Re: ROS testing on real hardware

I think boot problems on real hardware is unnecessary because it show similarity with the early win2k glitch. Even WinPE boot better on most of the machine back then. ROS Developers should considered to develop the OS to make it run on VirtualPC 2007 as a priority of real hardware visualization. Onc...

Re: Reactos 0.4 will be released in Q1 of 2014 ?

Honestly, I doubt 0.4 Release will be so soon in Q1 of 2014. A proper time would be at least in Q3 but with proper plan that involves Application Developers feedback massively to provide better delivery of Win32 APIs as planned for 0.4 Release. With the current progress and lack of responses from an...

Re: Storage Management, is there any plan?

It would be nice if the ROS Hard Disk partitioning and formatting routines in the installer become the base API for ROS reading the hard disk partition and limited formatting feature just for a diskette, USB key or virtual diskette for a start. I like the idea of the ROS very own CHKDSK too. At leas...

Storage Management, is there any plan?

Question: I haven't seen any built-in tools that could be used by user to handle storage management in ReactOS. Something equivalent to Scandisk, Defrag, Partition Manager and CHKDSK hasn't been planned into the Roadmap. Is there any chances we could see them in any next version Roadmap? Reason: As...

Re: idea - two partitions to reactos

I think the OP want to have user's space sandbox in ReactOS. The most efficient way to have user's space sandbox is by using a Virtual Storage file for each user. Inside the Virtual Storage file has it's own set registry file, user's configurations data plus System and Application directories struct...

Re: Suggestion: Move Compatibility into forum

Nonsense? Abusive? To who or what? Infact, it off the pressure of the developers. Users share and interact with each other about particular software tested on ROS. It is no mean to replace compatdb what so ever, instead could be the source for compatdb to be compiled nicely with less of the time req...

Suggestion: Move Compatibility into forum

I missed Compatibility page with the new homepage. In the the past, Compatibility page is the most favorite visited page when I came ReactOS website. I think if the new Compatibility page take this long to manage, how about add a new sub-forum under Feedback & Suggestions for the Compatibility feedb...

Re: What do we expect from ROS?

I expect ROS core will be easy to duplicate over various removable USB storage. Just type " Format <drive>: /S ", The ROS essential core with GUI, USB and Network support written to the storage. So, when I supply the storage with my own win32 application, I can pass along to anyone had x86 PC and bo...
