Re: Activity summary

Why dont you try yourself? load VBox and a Trunk ISO ;-). Personally, I haven't been able to get trunk to work in VirtualBox for a number of months. Installation goes through, but ReactOS refuses to start. Which sucks, because I had the urge to jump back in the compatibility testing game again. :| ...

Re: Soon: Develop ReactOS in ReactOS

Ged, if you need extra-motivation, watch this video: http://vimeo.com/12600701 I think this is the first time i see a complex app working such nice in ReactOS. In the other hand I disagree with your current point of view about ReactOS. First, We are hitting bugs hidden by big old hacks.Other bugs w...

Re: What about FreeOS/1 ?

We are planning to use FreeDOS as a base to our project and make it into a Free and Open Source Linux type OS, with Microsoft Windows compatibility using Wine, KernelEx, and ReactOS source code, where as it can run programs and drivers made for Windows XP on hardware that Windows cannot run on, suc...

Re: Installing Windows Service Packs

this does not work,it just appears to work,i had look in the c:\reactos directory and i could not find a single file that was created by Microsoft, the service pack installer just unpacks the files,it does not install any of the files. those noticeable improvements? nope. it must have been a placeb...

Short, timely updates, in contrast to the irregular and lengthy newsletter.

Could you make a longer version? More banner-sized?

ReactOS Web Banner ads wanted

I am currently a developer of facebook applications, and I plan to use this opportunity as another means to promote ReactOS. As a result, I would like some banners, (regular size and slimline, completely static, no animated GIFs!) that I could use to promote it. I understand that ReactOS is in alpha...

If you're referring to the sixth revision, yes it's terrible.
I'm scrapping (and archiving) the revisions made after Rev. 1.

Personally, I found that the "improvements" I made based on feedback made the icon too complex, and so I decided on the first revision.

sndrec32 Icon

I didn't like the look of the current sndrec32 icon, so I made my own replacement.
I made six revisions based on feedback, but I actually like the first revision best.

Re: is ti possible to recompile kernel like linux ?

That's not the case from my experience. It's entirely possible to strip out so much of the kernel that you need to do a recompile to get additional hardware support. Also IIRC some drivers are designed such that they have to be compiled in. A given distro may need to make tradeoffs in what drivers ...

Re: How it works

I just download ReactOS and unzipped it and looks like you write the file to cd then run from there, but are going to need partioned hard drive if you want dos and React on the same drive? Not write exactly. You need to "Burn" the ISO image, not just copy the file to the disk. You can't really dual...

That's not the case from my experience. It's entirely possible to strip out so much of the kernel that you need to do a recompile to get additional hardware support. Indeed, I was going to switch to linux completely, but was scared away when I found I would HAVE to recompile the kernel just to supp...
