I think going the route of Windows Update wouldn't be the best idea. Something along the lines of apt from Debian/Ubuntu would be the best. Then it would handle both kernel/OS updates and also allow downloading/updating of non-essential programs.

Why ? I hope that peoples (and -why not- manufacturers too ) starts to write open source drivers right now ! I guess by people, I meant all people, including manufacturers ;) But the problem with Windows is, since there are manufacturer provided drivers, there's no motivation to create open source ...

Just a note, that instead of Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader (which is bloated all to hell), you might check out Gnash (not really Win32 ready yet, but give it a bit) and Sumatra PDF. For antivirus, there's ClamWin. All these programs I suggested are open source and do their jobs well. And you might st...

Ok, nute, I am also an American and I have to say your comments have definitely been side stepped from the fundraising topic, are mostly false and I'm about to become a hypocrite: Of course Iraq is for money, look at the companies making huge profits at the expense of us paying money and lives in it...

Instead of a bounty system for developers, how about a pledge system for the ReactOS Foundation? Example: Somebody might say, I will donate $X to ReactOS for a fully functional USB stack. Other people might chip in, some developer steps in, does it, and although they don't get any money, ReactOS as ...

I think one idea behind the open source model is that you could go in and take out whatever you what using the source code.
