Samba can 100% percent do consistent password simply done. Integrate into pam so passwd change changes samba password as well. As I said - guess it's not been done then as I'm sure the ability must be there. I don't get paid to fix that part and I don't have legal access to the system. All I can do...

Its a was lemon Samba operator who forgets about configuring NTFS permissions on clients from server Well... yes and no. This wasn't just the fault of one person although they should have at least pointed out the potential problems. It summed up the entire attitude of the company since the install....

Okay oiaohm... you've covered some interesting points and I feel obliged to respond a little to clear up any ambiguity in my post although I thought my posting was fairly precise. Let's try again... OpenNetware is a Linux server these days called Novell Open Enterprise Server And your point is??. Wh...

VincentMX said for servers you need linux, or unix. Hmm... no you don't. Linux is a good server O/S but that's just not true. Assuming it's not flamebait - For any server you need a solution which is appropriate (re: "need") to it's application - that would include stuff like... Initial software cos...

Hmmm Vista, no thanks. If and when I buy another PC or laptop I may not have the choice though. Shame there's no downgrading program. I think the proverbial will hit the fan long before ROS is ready though - a lot of work remains. That means I'm still looking at SUSE and WINE and wondering whether l...

Replace Windows NT on control systems of US Battleships! lol!! But seriously folks - compact Windows O/S, networked apps, web server, bootable rescue systems, C and other code development, QEMU testing, virtual machines, Linux/WINE stuff, CGI development, general web-related stuff, apps testing, and...

You could try installing SmartBootManager (freeware). I had success in getting a VERY old Toshiba laptop to boot CDROMs but at present there are problems (bugs) in the development versions of ROS live CD. The older versions should be okay. Try searching Google http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=sm...

I was listening to a very interesting series of podcasts by Steve Gibson and Leo Laporte yesterday discussing the DRM issue. Whilst ROS probalby won't go down the DRM route it might be interesting to get a handle on what is happening in the rest of the world. http://www.grc.com/SecurityNow.htm (MP3 ...

Not sure if anyone will look at this. There may be no point since I've tested the Options= setting and it seems to work reliably. The code looks ok. Can't find claimed intermittent problems unlesss someone is getting the arg syntax wrong. It will only accept "=" delimiters as they're hard coded. Per...

That was before I was fully aware of all of the options available via the boot loader's GUI menu (normally this is not visible as the timeout is ==0)

But if coding is needed I will have a butchers at it and see if it's anything I'd be competent at.

I noted that if the bootloader had the timeout enabled at >0 in the freeldr.ini all the menu options to enable logging etc. can be chosen. Might not need the code fiddling with. Just the build config for the live ISO?
