I don't know the level of your expertise and I have not used VMWare in a long time but here goes: Make sure your VM is set to "BIOS" or "CSM" mode. DOS used BIOS calls to detect the HD. After, boot from the floppy and use "FDISK" to create the partition and "Format...

pfff, sure, pop my bubble why don't you :P

I'm sure a production kit would be cheaper than trying to assemble it from many kits.... say $1000 vs $4000.

and time, I have lots of that once I retire. I'd want to restore my Caddy first but that lego kit would be fun. :D

I had this hang on real hardware and was able to get around it by changing my cdrom drive from slave to master. Then I was able to get up and running. Now I'm having a problem with chipsets, still working on that one.
