Re: new website layout contest

Alright, my process so far: Frontpage http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2461/3788451543_03e6d9b3ee_o.png Forum http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3517/3788452019_d1ce510690_o.png I still want to add more to the page with the forum, because there is space on the right which can be utilized. The menus and ba...

Re: new website layout contest

I photoshopped the current design in an attempt to reduce some of the redundant entries; I am would like to post but I do not know if violates any copyright to do so. My work is not original, more of a rehash of the frontpage and a work in progress of the forum. Who designed the current website :?:

yup. at the same time, i dont want "OpenSource NT" to discredit the hard work people have done implementing applications, libraries, etc. ReactOS has grown big, just like its aspirations ;).

LOL!

Hey thanks for the replies. I noticed that there was some confusion in a couple of my concerns, so I'll clarify here. On #1, I guess that's okay that there's an option for it to be preinstalled on new computers once it's good enough. Just kidding. Of course it's okay, I don't know why I wrote that ...

welcome

welcome! :o of cource your concerns are legitimate: they are yours! lol. some of them, though, i would not agree with. it seems to me that many people here are well aquinted with the linux world. also there are people who are very used to the windows end user way of things. i think these discrepenci...

Package icon

Good to hear.

This is where i got the icon (well, i grabbed it from the screen shot). i figured since ReactOS uses tango icons anyway.

@dreams, the "!" gives it a personality ;).

again Maarten, great work!

Anonymous?

http://myspace-023.vo.llnwd.net/01554/32/06/1554046023_l.png hehe, it said anonymous on my comment. I photoshoped Maarten Bosma's C# mockup and changed: the icon to a little package (unoffical tango pack); edited the title; added a "ReactOS" menu (for service packs?); flipped the "ve...

sigh

The wiki says ntfs (read/write) support is due at 0.5.x. the question of where or not it is available now (windows ntfs driver) or available now as a *viable alternative (ntfs-3g, etc) is kinda pointless right now considering, as well as taking into account the previous statement. you could argue ab...

Windows Vista Icon support

I was looking for an easy way to mess with icons and found this plugin for photoshop. http://www.telegraphics.com.au/svn/icof ... EADME.html

it says it supports vista icons, but the icons seem too big to have compressed pngs. just thought id through this out here since its gpl.

but when the question of value comes into play, do people want to invest the time to bring it up to a higher quality (working with the files individually) to say it works well or as good as was originally intended? or do they even want to use it? the quality issue can most easily be resolved, as you...

so put simply, yes; icon themes can be imported. however: 1) the 16x16 versions versions may look ugly. 2) it will not be easy due to the lack of a automated conversion tool and/or direct svg theme support.

yup, 16x16 is in a few other places as well. but i thought linux themes had a 16x16 "non-svg"(png?) file for some icons(if not all), in addition to the svg file. and also at 22x22. wouldnt those compensate for the "small icon problem" due to scaling a detailed image (like, i assu...

oiaohm: The big thing when see if a theme works for windows is the 16x16 size. so much for the "scalable" part of svg  . but dont themes have the smaller versions as well? would the tool be practical if it took the corresponding 16x16 file and put it into the .ico? the unified name s...

yup, got that

oiaohm: Now a tool that takes the base svg of a crystal-clear or any other theme and produced the required windows icon files would be great. So when applications ask for Icons in Windows format they can get it. sure, taking all the svg files in a directory and automatically converting them into .i...
