Re: React OS Ideas

1.ROS is doing the job of providing an OS .. Repacking and mantaining and updating software repos is outa question .. downloading from the official provider is best .. 2.Mantaining a media player in house is just a big pain .. Just link to VLC .. 3.Drivers? Generic drivers will be provided .. The 3d...

Re: Cairo Shell

Hey! Did the devs put up a New Shell needed board anytime? Thats cos they are happy with the standard shell which ROS uses atm (err.. happy as in .. with it being there .. i dnt mean bug free "yet" :P) Any other shell will be user choice to install .. If it works now great .. otherwise wai...

Re: Different distros of ReactOS?

As for competition .. wat can be done is a group of ReactOS (as in the barebone ReactOS Foundation version) can put out a just for the sake of it distro (yep "unofficial").. n drag ppl away from other competing distros .. This group should work pretty closely with the core devs .. not go a...

Most prolly the core ReactOS will be basic by ROS Foundation .. But then there will be distros .. lots most prolly .. and till they stick to GPL nothing wrng .. But distros cause lots of havoc imo .. look now .. u have 100s of different linux distros .. why? most prolly cos linux hasnt exactly got a...

Re: Visual Studio

Hello, At the moment you cannot compile the whole of ROS with VC++ .. some parts you can .. you can make rbuild generate the project files .. Hopefully in the future someone will get the time to fix rest of the compilation .. LRN .. No .. VC++ is not obsolete .. it is one of the best compilers aroun...

Re: A Reactos Distro

And also, I strongly disagree with this type of distributions we have/will have most default libraries which come with Windows and the drivers are provided by the hw manufacturers .. At least that's my opinion on the matter.. because I don't need the latest ForceWare/Catalist/.NET framework/(even m...

Re: A Reactos Distro

IMO there's no real point in a ReactOS distro.. Linux gave birth to distros only cos linux itself is simply the kernel and essential parts .. it doesnt come with a GUI of its own .. (think bout the no. of GUIs they now have.. KDE .. GNOME to name a few..) then they ship other libraries and drivers w...

Most distros come with their own archive managers don't they? get one of those modules for 7z that they have in their repo .. At least Ubuntu used to have that ..

Re: ReactOS screenshots & movies

Hello,
I've tested IrfanView installer on a recent TRUNK build .. And figured out what the problem is ..
It uses its own installer which requires a MS runtime dll .. (forgot the name)..
So get the zip version from their site .. install 7zip and extract .. the itself application works great..
