Re: "This wizard installs a new device driver for system device" (and 2 other things)

Try installing VMWare's driver disk I would say. But beware that some of the hardware and it's drivers might not work and need to edited out of the VM

Re: What is ReactOS currently useful for?

I have my CLT experiences here, too. Some brave guy made the older CNC milling machine at work follow the no XP PCs allowed policy by using a ROS PC for it. According to him it works at aleast as stable as the old XP install used before.

Re: What is ReactOS currently useful for?

There is no straight to the point in Alpha development state. But if you need a answer in one sentence... check my signature. If you need more information, you need to help yourself a bit. We are not here for spoon feeding, but for development progress. Lets me say that much though. Alpha state mean...

Re: Reactos paid version.

Two big problems here. First you would need to relicense all of the code for a dual licensing. This means EVERYONE who ever contributed code that still is used and the current license is not "public domain" would have to be contacted and asked for their code to be relicensed. Very difficul...

Re: Sending "Cntl-Alt-Del" does not do anything in VMware virtual machine

You know the definition of Alpha state in software matters? I strongly recommend you check it up before you continue at all. Btw, I have a 1-liner explaination in my signature. So no need to even open another Safari tab and making a safari off it. If you want help in the current state of development...

Re: Sending "Cntl-Alt-Del" does not do anything in VMware virtual machine

I guess you used the release current build? If so, nope, no other way around. In this case the Login Dialog is telling you that the registry is corrupted. But before you redo (use a nightly as test) the setup I STRONGLY recommend you to check what you are doing. I virtual VMWare based ROS install (o...

Re: Was bedeutet die Ukrainekrise für das ReactOS-Projekt?

Wir dürfen keine Spenden einfach so annehmen ohne eine einigermaßen sinnvolle Herkunft. Schon mal was von Geldwäsche gehört? Und nochmal... Ihr seht was es uns eingebacht hat, dass ein paar Fan des Projektes es Putin persönlich gezeigt haben. Wenn du unbedingt willst, dass das Projekt von den ganzen...

Re: state of play

That's one of the problems. I can only talk about USB where I followed the whole story, but the general consensus was that using Linux drivers as a base to port is more difficult than rewriting them entriely. For our goals these drivers are not much more than a lil howto for the hardware and how to ...

Re: state of play

Wine's dlls are Windows compatible to some extent, and yes, we use quite a bunch of them, because why reinventing the wheel twice? Does this make us another fork of a fork of a forked Linux distro? Nope, luckily not. We are a Windows architecture, not binary compatible but many parts are quite close...

"since I'm expecting it to have access to the same Wifi drivers that Linux has."

Uuuuh, nope? What makes you come to such a conclusion? We are NO LINUX, NO UNIX, NO *NIX at all. Nowhere, never and never before.

Re: Where to download the WDM driver for VMWare?

That's the wrong one. WDM driver was the AC97 one. To get that, install the VMWare CD Image you talk about. (Should work by now) I don't host this driver for years by now.

Re: Why is ReactOS based on a 17-year-old version of Windows?

You got two points wrong here:

- 32 Bit Firefox is still a thing for your information.
- The 64 Bit version will by default be NT6.0. That's what the dev Timo Kreuzer already changed thinking about the same arguments as you.

Re: Why the negativity everywhere?

Regarding all your points. Yeah, what should I say... I second most of them of course. ^^ I am one of the troublemakers who asks for the NT6 switchover again and again that we will not die in vain. Sure, it's WIP and actively developed in a fork, but the discussion I see way too often that all that ...
