Re: Thank you Devs

Instead of picking at the devs I rather want to thank them. As I said before, as a OS dev dilettant I know enough about OS dev to see that it's a huge task and that the progress so far is already cool!

Greetings

Re: Little idea about 64 bit problem

Btw, the whole idea is not needed anymore anyways: https://twitter.com/reactos/status/1404464804266401796?s=20 This does mean ROS can use > 4GB RAM then, BUUUUUUT only 64 bit apps will run for now. There two question arise for me: 1. Have there ever been 32 bit programs that can access more than 4G...

Re: Question about the FAQ

try it on qemu Yes, good idea. I didn't yet, because I prefer real bare metal, but recently I started using Qemu for some x86_64 OS dev. SO I'll give ROS on Qemu a try. you are PeterX, from osdev right? Don't remind me of _that_, I just have quitted visiting osdev.org. I hope you aren't zaval from ...

Re: Question about the FAQ

Nah, I'm not a contributer, just a rather uninformed fan. For example I hadn't a clue how many themes there are. ReactOS doesn't run on my machine so I have not much opportunity to learn about it.

Question about the FAQ

I just stumbled over something in the FAQ: https://reactos.org/wiki/ReactOS_FAQ#Why_doesn.27t_ReactOS_have_a_modern_UI.3F The target is Windows 2003 and ReactOS' UI is based upon that. There are four alternative theme choices and both are suited for desktop operation. That seems to be a mistake: 4 a...

Re: reactos priority? or mess?

ReactOS did not have plan what they did want to add or not, so only to make faster progress is to make money to add more? try to get company to pay, why did they pay linux enterprice linux instead of reactos? its not hard to find out. Make reactOS free to peaple but cost company money? I can not fi...

Re: reactos priority? or mess?

Am I the only one being annoyed by ppl who get something for free and still can only complain!? If you wanna see faster progress, then support us. Tell others about ROS, tell devs about ROS, develop yourself, help with bug reports or regression testing. If you don't wanna... fine, but then stop dem...

Re: ReactOS for ARM

Yeah, I would love to see ReactOS on all CPU architectures, too. I also would love to see 64bit ReactOS, UEFI ReactOS, Win10 ReactOS etc. But I know that the current ROS developers are doing a pretty good job. They concentrate on the doable/possible. If I ever get skilled enough to support ROS devel...

Yeah, on second sight it looks like that. I've also seen other thread openers here where I suspected they were bots. But I didn't care much because it wasn't complete nonsense nor spam.

Re: Why Reactos is so much Linux-like?

The most disapointing thing about ReactOS is of course its comparison with Windows: ReactOS is alpha-state, in other words not ready for using. That's pretty normal, since it must be developed from scratch. But nontheless disappointing. Apart from that I'm not disappointed by ReactOS. It's just frus...

Re: What is the difference between Linux and Windows?

One difference between Windwos/ReactOS and Linux (with GNU) is the existing tools. Windows tools tend to be GUI oriented and Linux tools are often command-line tools. Of course there are commandline-tools for Windows and GUI tools for Linux, but there is a tendency. For a total computer newbie (or s...

Re: Is anyone working on a react os ide?

Because you are going to a carpenter asking for bread. They both make stuff, it's just nothing alike. Now I see what you mean. But I think asking here if someone else already does such a project, that is perfectly OK. Just the coding would be done somewhere else, like a separate github repository o...

Re: Is anyone working on a react os ide?

Why spend time on Linux when there is Unix? Why spend time on ReactOS when there is Windows? You see the pattern? I personally would like a truely free and open source IDE. But whatever suits you. Greetings Peter The goals of ReactOS is just to write an open source clone of Windows. Nothing else. L...
