Re: ReactOS Mascot

There is already a computer company called Alien. https://www.dell.com/en-us/gaming/alienware?~ck=mn https://i.pinimg.com/originals/21/07/ab/2107ab4c2502bced8bec96d6192dd943.jpg Who cares? I'm not suggesting naming ReactOS "Alien". How about a road runner? It is small yet fast? https://www.thespruc...

Re: ReactOS Mascot

Nah! Not a penguin! ReactOS really is not Linux.

The ReactOS symbol could be an atom or a planet. If a planet, why not an alien as mascot?
If an atom, perhaps a crazy professor as mascot?

Greetings
Peter

Ah, ok. thanks (Yes, I was referring to the first post in this thread where some info is in a chart about what to post here).

Re: Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS

I can't access the chart image. It was uploded 2007 so it's probably not there anymore.
Can you upload it again and post the new link?

OK. I understand it now. It's building now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

[SOLVED] Re: Can't ninja/make

OK, maybe I got it: I cd to output-MinGW-9386 and "ninja". This is not written in the documentation but it works.

(But still no makefile (documentation says "make" is possible.))

I didn't see EmuandCo's comment. Sorry.

Thanks to both of you.

Can't ninja/make

I downloaded ROS sources from github via "git clone" and ROS-BE 2.2.1. I built ROS-BE succesfully on my Linux system. I successfully ran ./configure.sh from within ROS-BE. When I enter ninja or make it doesn't work. It complains about missing ninja.build or makefile. Any suggestion what I should do ...

(Not) missing VB runtime

On the following page there is listed VB runtime as missing:
https://reactos.org/wiki/Missing_ReactO ... mentations

But there is this project:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vb6extendedruntime/

So should it be removed from the "Missing" list?

Re: Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS

1. Building config is difficult and takes a lot of time. And no, the kernel sources don't get smaller or simpler by building. 2. menuconfig and xconfig don't make the process simpler. Just looks better. 3. Yes, that's part of the problem. And I mean X and the desktop environments. The whole graphics...

Re: Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS

Which disadvantages for Linux? Overly bloated kernel (it even has a coffee machine, a laundry washer and a nuclear power plant built into it). The kernel is impossible to be built without a lot of configuration work. Hard to configure (kernel and user space). Extremely overdone GUI. Not intuitive a...

Re: Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS

Maybe this power is wasted. Windows is dying, ask Microsofts developers, especially in Munich. Read the press of last years: https://www.techradar.com/news/is-windows-dying https://www.zdnet.com/article/in-2018-windows-died-at-home-and-nobody-cared/ ... But I would love to have a free/open source O...

Why should they? Isn't ReactOS a worthy project? And it has requirements that go beyond an emulation layer.

Re: Hangs too early to debug?

I guess I wasn't specific enough: The installation from BootCD didn't cause any problem. But the installed ROS on first partition of HD doesn't boot at all! It hangs on the very beginning of stage 2. Then screen goes black and there is a text cursor blinking in the top-left corner. I don't get a boo...

Hangs too early to debug?

I have a little problem with ReactOS:

It doesn't boot to the boot-menu. So I can't choose the option "debug" or "log file".

It is possible to debug to a serial connection so early in the boot process?

Greetings
Peter
