Re: 0.4.13 Testing
I tested ReactOS more than 5 years ago, and discovered it was quite useless for me, it didn't support my usb-mouse. Better options exist to run Windows code without violating copyright via Linux. ReactOS likely will never support a basic USB mouse on real hardware. The target for ReactOS was 8086, ...

Re: A Superscalar Out-of-Order x86 Soft Processor for FPGA
My thinking is the University of Toronto is likely full of masters and doctorate students desperate for something to focus their skills on and get credentialed. Also the guy who did this project at Toronto made a presentation at Stanford University (generally after a PhD a person looks for a job in ...

A Superscalar Out-of-Order x86 Soft Processor for FPGA
This is a link to the online seminar at Stanford University about a superscaler FPGA open source 32 bit X86 single core processor design. He doesn't seem to have fully completed it, on the other hand, he is implementing an open source single core 32 bit solution, which only consumes about 7 percent ...

Re: $35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)
After BIOS boot, blank screen with ReactOS native. Install was via Win32DiskImager.
This only has an HDMI output via integrated Intel graphics. There is no drive activity LED or even power on LED built into the board.
Once it goes black it is hard to diagnose.

Re: $35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)
My Atomic Pi arrived today. WIndows 10 wouldn't install onto it, as there is only 16 GB of flash drive built in. Windows 10 does run off the USB 3 port, but it is slow. Only 2 GB of RAM. The power draw is between 4 and 8 watts when idle, and up to 15 watts when running all 4 cores at 100%. I can't g...

Here's an interesting factoid you might like to know: the board Digital Loggers is now selling as the "Atomic Pi" is was originally developed by Mayfield Robotics for use in their "Kuri" household robot. For more info see reddit.com/r/Atomic_Pi/comments/bnvtq8/atomic_pi_leftover...

Re: Windows Linux includes full Linux OS w/ext4 file system
There already is an open JIRA ticket about ENIW (ReactOS' equivalent of WSL) proposal. Microsofts WSL 2 seems more evolved having a hypervisor running two operating systems as peers one Windows one Linux. To the extent this is open source as Microsoft is promising (on the Linux side). It may be pos...

Re: $35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)
How about this: Not using a shintel cpu. Which just got a microcode update that makes it even slower. There is a lot wrong with it, AMD Zen would be preferred. Though the Atom series APU's are excluded from the most recent laundry list of bad design choices which plague Intel. That said, the cost w...

Re: Windows Linux includes full Linux OS w/ext4 file system
Two operating systems running under a common hypervisor. Linux and ReactOS. A hypervisor could help manage newer hardware and set up an environment for ReactOS. To the extent ReactOS is a variant of Windows this could make deployment easier. If Microsoft publicly releases it's WSL 2 Linux as open so...

$35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)
A $35 Atomic Pi is available at Amazon using an Intel Atom Z8350 X86 system on chip. It has 1080P HDMI output, 3 USB 2 1 USB 3, 4 GB storage and 16 GB of flash. The flash comes pre-loaded with an unknown Linux variant. Is this something ReactOS alpha can power? It does not currently include a power ...

Windows Linux includes full Linux OS w/ext4 file system
Microsoft announced recently an upgrade to Windows, a full Linux system can be embedded with Windows including support for the ext4 file system. This is supposed to be fully open source (it may be available for import to ReactOS). This is referred to as WSL 2, and Microsoft claims it is not a tradit...

Re: Important reflection
In my day OS development was in assembler language only, the only extensions were via assembler macros. C has demonstrated itself as a capable language for use in Linux development. My concern about any OS development is too many languages. It takes years to become really proficient in one, after a ...

Re: [ANNOUNCEMENT] ReactOS as a second OS in Russian government
There is not anything obviously Russian about ReactOS imo, as it's development if anything is too slow.
