Re: Why is ReactOS based on a 17-year-old version of Windows?
I don't understand why people want windows X version, if what really matters is 1) being able to execute programs 2) hardware compatibility out of that I don't care about the firewall, paint or any other shitty program included within X version, when there are hundreds better, let's say there was a...

Re: ReactOS is being needlessly inefficient by using clean-room when it's not legally required
You can actually get most of the stuff you want from debugging info which is available for windows.. so you'd know the function names etc... what you wont get are private variable names in functions etc.

Re: Why the negativity everywhere?
I mean I think adding NT6 functionality makes sense... maybe not everything but yeah. Sure its a moving target but it also means people may be able to run newer stuff they want to run...which indirectly means more developers (Haiku had to break down and accept this also when they started porting oth...

Re: Little idea about 64 bit problem
1. No 2. It's impossible. Apps ist short for Applications, so I will keep it that way ^^ I'm not sure 1 is 100% true though it definitely is the rule... on a PAE enabled 32bit NT kernel while you cannot have a program that directly accesses greater than 4GB you can write a program that can utilize ...

Re: What happens if you run virtualbox on reactos?
What happens if you run virtualbox on reactos? Until VirtualBox 5.2 you can try running it under ReactOS 32bits builds... (if everything works, if not Jira report) ReactOS is able to virtualize and emulate well using VirtualBox, QEMU, DOSBox... From 6.x.x is for 64 bits only.... to test under React...

Try a later version 5.13 at least is known to work on XP... also the music is annoying.

Re: Two decades later...what's the point?
Microsoft doesn't give two flying fucks if you download Windows 98 and set it up in a VM. Ever try to install Windows XP or Server 2003 in a VM? Without a license or some sort of crack, you only get a few days of functionality until it stops working correctly. That would be fine enough for me, sinc...

I know. I forgot to make that more clear. I wanted to shut this discussion down with my reply ^^ Still being insufferable I see. This is an OT thread... you shouldn't be just going around "shutting it down" good grief man give it a rest. Anyway most of the OPs original points about waylan...

Re: Intel deletes old drivers
Which is dumb because despite not being in support, Intel still can host the downloads to keep machines working, all of the driver's they're removing probably cost almost nothing in terms of storage. please tell us more with your undoubtedly years of experience maintaining products for thousands if...

Re: TheRegister: "ReactOS ‘a ripoff of the Windows Research Kernel’ claims Microsoft kernel engineer"
"The sooner this will calm down" It may calm down, but it will never be over unless ReactOS can document every single usage of these macro names, hacks and or undocumented kernel features (eg anything that pattern matches against WRK and other leaks etc...). That would mean having on hand ...

Re: Split: complain about mods and some users behavior
Well part of the problem is the signal to noise ratio gets so low.... I mean really I open up an interesting topic and it feels like half the posts are from mods telling people to speak english properly and or stay on topic  ? The opposite of course are popuplar tech disqus threads... where t...

Split: complain about mods and some users behavior
Getting completely bent out of shape over word choice and grammar, while threatening people with repercussions is not helpful. I stop buy here every so often to see how things are progressing and 90% of the recent comments are with respect to moderators being overbearing with someone who's native la...

Re: $35 Atomic Pi (x86 Intel Atom Z8350 4GB RAM 16GB flash)
Actually the best CPU for ReactOS cost benefit wise would be one with the fastest single core speed.. and the lowest price. So basically an OCed Sempron 200GE to 4.1Ghz on an MSI motherboard (not all boards can OC this chip). Most of intel's CPUs that can OC are expensive...
