Well for the discussion if a text or a binary file should be used. I think the binary form is better (for the sake of speed and size) and thats what ReactOS needs if it will become a real alternative to MS Windows. Who want's a compatible OS thats alot slower?
Speed is onl...

We have had to to use TS Edition since the day it came out and I hated its guts. The reason is this: all the client sessions use one single IP number --that of the server. If there were some way to assign each session a different IP number (thru some sort of DHCP) life would be so much easier for us...

Further on this topic: I have done a little bit of real-life testing on a heavily used machine (Registry usage was heavy) and here are the values I got [I used the RegMon utility made by SysInternals people.] When I run RegMon for 30 minutes (1800 seconds), it collected a total of 1,603,331 Registry...

Well, with Reiser4 the issue is almost irrelevant. Reiser4 is geared for small files from the beginning.
Is the Registry a small file?
Well... yes and no. No: Registry --in conventional sense-- is a great big blob of file holding stuff in its own ...

Two things: There is already something called Linux Registry (or the Elektra Initiative as it is called now) and it tries to get us saved from /etc/* hell. http://elektra.sourceforge.net/ I think it is a good idea (and in the right direction). I would like to able to play with it on my Debian, but I...

Here is how I would like this file type thing to be handled. First, the OS knows when a file is added or altered, so any filetype determination can be done at that moment. Same goes for newly mounted partitions: the OS could come back to the user (at the moment of mounting etc.) and ask whether it s...
