results of my latest test
After my failure to start ROS from compact flash or disk image, I finally resorted to burning a CD with 0.4.7. I placed it in my only other PC with optical drive (Athlon XP with KT333 chipset) and was able to install. I chose Japanese keyboard layout in the early portion of the installation, but aft...

couldn't boot .4.7 install image
I already posted about it not working in Virtual PC 2004 https://www.reactos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=16947#p129926 (that was probably the wrong topic, sorry!) So I also tried booting it from a 2GB FAT32 CF card. I copied all the files from the ISO image to the card, made a copy of the FAT32 ve...

Re: 0.4.8 Testing
I just downloaded a ReactOS installation ISO and attempted to start it in Virtual PC 2004. After double checking, I realized that it is 0.4.7. Re: questions about installation and boot process
My personal goal was to install ReactOS without using VM software or CD media.
After trying more machines, I eventually succeeded on a Compaq Deskpro Pentium III with i815 chipset.

Re: questions about installation and boot process
Thanks for replying. I will describe what I have done so far. At least it uses a bootsector which should compatible with windows versions for fat & ntfs. I wasn't sure what you meant by this. I tried to modify a Win2K boot sector to start FREELDR or SETUPLDR by changing the string containing the fil...

questions about installation and boot process
Hi, I like to use Compact Flash cards for installing and testing multiple OSs on different hardware. This is extremely convenient because CF cards can be connected in place of an IDE harddisk using an adaptor, or connected via a USB card reader where I can copy files or use a sector editor to dump/r...
