Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
What about making pressure on politicians. Slovakian goverment pays Microsoft 52 milion (10^6) Euro for 3 years. Slovakia is small country (about 5 milion population). 20 countries (perheps only from EU, or Russia, China, Indonezia, India, Pakistan, ...) pays 5 000 euro and http://www.kickstarter.c...

Re: Different PR/Fundraising approach
I don't know - can they try again kickstarter? ]But asking for 10K and for a SPECIFIC, WELL-DEFINED feature? Because so far, they were promising the sky and the moon for 120K, and quite literally, noone was "buying" it. Example?. Example of a small successfull campaign with a clear and re...

Re: Different PR/Fundraising approach
But everybody knows kickstarter vs. nobody knows gofundme. The whole attempt was rather doomed - they got some serious campaign going on and did it well, but only after half the time had already passed, and frankly, everyone who sees you have some 20K after half the time, does not need to waste his...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
Hmm, another high potential ReactOS user, China? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/02/14/china_shutters_windows_rival_red_flag_linux/ ReactOS would fit their use case technically much better, while they still could "rival" the US. Someone with good contacts to the Chinese government, to in...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
I have a question related to publicizing this effort (i.e., Thorium Core). Is it too late for us to make press releases to certain news agencies that might actually provide some free publicity for this project? This might be something that has already been done for Thorium Core, but I'm just asking...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
I've been testing ReactOS/Arwinss for years, and game compatibility is nowhere close to where it needs to be. Maybe it would be if they had $120,000 to work on it, but it's a Catch-22: I can't bet the farm without some assurance that ReactOS will reach the level it needs to be at, and ReactOS won't...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
I'll tell you what I want Thorium Core to do. My website uses jDosbox to make DOS games playable in a Java applet in your browser. DOSBox is capable of running a copy of Windows 3.1 and even Windows 98, but it wouldn't be legal for me to put a copy of Windows in a disk image on my website, which an...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
I just pledged support for Thorium Core. Even though we have some ways to go, I would like to encourage my fellow REACTOS supporters to do the same and pledge your support! :) Indeed, the campaign is not over and we should use this chance as good as possible, so spread the word everyone! :) As this...

Re: Motto Competition (Final Phase)
I guess there is two reasons: 1. It's too early because it's not close to version 1.0, so when it's in pre-alpha/alpha/beta stages of development, you don't worry about that kind of stuff. Motto's etc is something you find just before release. 2. I'm not a native english speaking person, but when a...

Re: Motto Competition (Final Phase)
1) Either the ROS community is lazy even to vote on a principle manner OR 2) The ROS community does not believe that any self actions would by taken into consideration by the devs and may promoted within the development team. I can give a third reason: was not aware at all of a ongoing motto voting...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
But there is a third kind of people, the people who have not jumped to linux up to now and who are frustrated with the last MS Windows iterations. And there are MANY of them, they could be the enthusiastic audience for ReactOS. Yeah, but some of them don't get to be shown the "operating system...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
It seems that people either say "WINE does it well enough, so I stay on Linux" or they say "ReactOS does not do it well enough, so I stay on Windows"... I hope ROS team will learn from the Kickstarter mistakes and also from other Kickstarters' good ideas to improve the next atte...

Re: Thorium (ROS distribution) on kickstarter
I asked a few Czech magazines whether they are interested in covering ReactOS Kickstarter, first article appeared: http://extrawindows.cnews.cz/clanky/komercni-distribuce-reactos-na-kickstarteru-celi-neuspechu-ma-sanci A few points taken from the article: - every second paragraph mentions that ROS ...
