I thought that most of the current available software for Linux are already available for Windows
If the original developers decided to develop their software to be cross-platform, yeah.

Re: I finally figured out how to make Win7 not suck; might be ready to say goodbye to XP

So, for all practical purposes, it's indistinguishable from nonexistent. I can use this tool: https://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/ to enable the account outside of Windows itself running. If the account didn't exist in the first place, I couldn't do that. So no, it's not really "indistinguishable f...

Re: Design Team

There's simply not enough need right now. Plus, if anyone where to be given this sort of responsibility by the devs or the community at large, right now it would probably be offered to @p01arst0rm if they wanted to do it.

Re: Trying to install ReactOS on Compaq nc6120

I have a LOT of drivers that aren't working. In short, if it's designed for Windows XP or Server 2003 SP2, it should work. If it doesn't, then you can check in Jira ( https://jira.reactos.org ) to see if it's a known issue. If it's not and you can get good debug info, you can file a bug report ( ht...

how can I visually edit GUI's ?
As far as I know, this isn't possible. All GUIs in ReactOS are coded, not built with a WYSIWYG editor.

Re: Dear developers

I feel that the non board members sbould be allowed to vote. Vote on what? How the German organization is run? In the US, you can vote for politicians because you're a citizen of the country. You can vote at shareholder meetings if you own shares in a company. What would entitle people to vote on h...

Re: Design Team

What work specifically would a design team do? Would they be given permissions to commit things to GitHub without review? Who is in charge? Who has oversight?

Re: Ecosia as default ReactOS search engine?

Ecosia cannot currently be integrated into a website, which would only leave setting it as the default search within a browser. There's not really a (reasonable/usable) browser that comes built into ROS, so when you install a different browser, you get whatever they have set for a default. It's a ni...

Re: Programs that heavily rely on NT 6.x APIs list

Aside from the fact that XP is still receiving patches and therefore could in theory be aware of newer versions of Windows; you only asked about a shim mis-reporting the version of Windows in general, not whether or not it did so for newer versions. And this is exactly what ReactOS will do in theory...

Re: New install under Oracle VM VirtualBox crashes during boot

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time getting ReactOS to run. I install/re-install ROS dozens of times a week and almost never run into issues. For the record, I use VBox with the Windows 2003 32 bit template. Accept all defaults. Then increase RAM to 2048 MB, set mouse to PS2, and use PCnet-FAS...

Re: Programs that heavily rely on NT 6.x APIs list

Drivers for modern hardware Drivers =/= applications. Drivers are so closely tied to the kernel and have such a large impact on overall system performance and stability that using any kind of compatibility mechanism seems foolish. Can a shim be made that deliberately mis-reports the Windows version...
