Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Here is a whole directory of drivers: http://svn.reactos.org/svn/reactos/trunk/reactos/drivers/ I guess I will just do whatever I want with that. I could not help notice the words "the reactos revolution" in there. Don`t you think you should alteast train your forum people first? :) One ca...

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Some of the later posts are truly crazy. Everyone knows and experiences improvements in windows, by cutting components. Some explain away the feeble kernel, and state is works averagely well for everything. Obviously showing no understanding of computers. To to cover up and claim superior knowledge ...

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Have a look at this. A list of drivers dated 2001. That is very outdated. I was wondering if they could be replaced by better opensource alternatives.

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

I did not misunderstand the page :) A "compatible" driver can ofcourse be used on windows and vice verca. And if you have binary compatiblity, somewhere you can exchange kernel, and it`s depencies, and run a system with windows binaries and drivers. "Without the user noticing" as...

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Your info on the front-page says quite something else. Driver-comaptible with windows, binary compatible with windows etc. The users will notice no difference. You are obsvioulsy not hearing what I am saying. The design-decision you talk about does not exist in reality. Nobody designs their system, ...

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Whats the state of stuff like PCI-PCI brigde etc? Is it experimental/sloppy non-optimized or have you gotten optimized code inspired by h/w companies/elsewhere etc?

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

Might be a bit early yet. Reactos Explorer crashed in Qemu. It was slow, and after the crash dosbox uberslow. I haven`t seen anything this slow since cp/m on commodore 128. win32 dir is interesting. Anything here that might be fun, and slimmer / less code / good for trying as replacements? Peace Be ...

Re: Opensource file-replacements.

No low level stuff? That I can replace in my windows XP install, to probably remove oddsoft coding. Drivers? You see I did an experiment which XP that shows the XP kernel to be completely backward. Instead of "high" priority, "idle" priority gives better performance. (cpu2 chokes...

Opensource file-replacements.

How ready is Reactos? Since it aims to be compatible with windows XP, does that mean you can replace windows XP files / components with Reactos open-source files? For instance, even replacing the kernel? If that is possible, how many files are now replacable?
