I count all programs that access the global registery and changes it for its own purpose without user input as virus. The global registry (i assume you mean HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE) is read-only for standard users, only the administrator account can write to it... Maybe it'd help if people who don't kno...

I guess all of these things have been thought about, even from Microsoft's side... But for some reason, they haven't been applied. One thing that irritates me the most is the auto-selection when you use the mouse in Windows 98 or later versions to select text, it auto selects words and sometimes ove...

it use vbe 2.0 line frame buffer. yes, it works on winxp. you only need a .inf file or you can wrote one you self. That's so cool. I still need more information about the actual driver and how to make it work in Win XP. I can probably write an INF file but i need to know the actual driver files fir...

SMSS.exe CSRSS.exe AUTOCHK.exe

I want to ask about SMSS.EXE and CSRSS.EXE and AUTOCHK.EXE. I Windows NT these cannot be run in Win32. Actually, I can't start them at all. They are some kind of native images of some kind. Does they work the same in ReactOS? How do you compile these exe files? And how do you run them? What dynamic ...

Windows 64 don't include any 16bit suppor (but for the old Microsoft 16bit installer exist a replacement build in in windows) I think this is a point that this projekt can make better than microsoft - support very old things! I see it like this. Support is not going to rock unless you build the Ope...

mjs, compiling 16 bit programs you need Visual C++ 4.0 from Microsoft. That was the last compiler to do NE executables I guess.

just as an information: I'm still working on my keyboard layout. Tedious kinda job this is... :) Yea, think how funny it is to program you own operating system alone! Then this keyboard layout is nothing compared to everything you have to do from scratch just to see it not work on another computer!...

I doubt that this will improve overall speed - you would have to save and restore the MMX/SSE state before and after using such opcodes (KeSaveFloatingPointState/KeRestoreFloatingPointState - check MSDN: Using Floating Point or MMX in a WDM Driver for more information) Okay, so these calls may slow...

Depends on whether you introduce bugs I guess :) I'd be interested if you see a measurable performance improvement. This will be one of the first things I will test, as soon as I can compile ReactOS. I still haven't downloded GCC and all the stuff needed. I'm very interested in working with ReactOS...

Cool.
So if I change this into 16 bytes (using floating point asm), will it work?

I know MEMCPY

I know that memcpy, memset, and the related functions in Windows are optimized to copy 16 bytes at a time.
Is ReactOS optimized this way, or is it slow as hell (copying/setting 1 byte at a time in the data loop)?

So many things are dependent on copying data as fast as possible.

What needs to be done to make Winlogon work like the one in Windows 2000?

Can someone make a list? It would help for developers to know what need to be done.

I know only the part of Msgina. Winlogo itself is kinda hard to get into without getting Windows 2000/NT upset.

That's dead code, it is not even compiled. Still not that legal to have it included in the source. But I will stop complaining! All I wanted to know is how far I can go for using code. And by now i know i can use any code as long as nothing can be traced back to Microsoft. I still am very intereste...

Linear frame buffering of video?

The Windows 95/98 virtual flat frame buffer device (Vflatd.vxd). Vflatd.vxd provides a frame buffer that can be up to 1 MB in size. Windows 3.1 video drivers are limited to a 64K frame buffer that affects your available system resources. This is something I have always wondered about. How can Windo...
