Re:
Why it is confusing? It should remind people to be more careful. If "administrator" will never have to elevate privileges, it means that either (1) he is not allowed to do some things at all, or (2) he is almighty. In the latter case, a buggy / malicious program started from his account o...
UAC
as it stands now i don't really like the way the UAC is implemented it vista or windows 7. i like the way SU is done in linux and although i can see benefits to SUDO over SU it's confusing to me (and others) to call something "administrator's group" and "administrator" and still ...

Betov any large project will have errors. That is the normal thing. Please don't claim trash. There is no doubt that MicroSoft will sue ReactOS, as soon as it will become a danger for their incomes. Besides there is a correct legal process they have to go threw before they can sue. microsoft can su...

Re: Icons for image files.
Hi all, While I've lurked these forums for a while, this would be my first post. I'm a help desk tech, with a bit of Graphic and web design back ground. Unfortunately i no nothing of C or C++ (i toyed with VB 6 and .net for a little while, but alas, no C). I had a thought recently about icons for g...

@artguy i think the red backdrop compliments the olive very well and keeps it from going into overdosing on green. opacity of the taskbar looks fine at 100% or translucent. i think they are all good--i would keep them all. they just look good. i would make the three of them official themes. with mor...

Thanks. :) I contacted mf. You know, it seems the direction reactos is going is to be almost like a break-off version of windows. However, I don't think there should be major fear in becoming a little more different. For example, I was able to switch from Windows to Mac (very different, and much be...

http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/9210/reactosdesktopnewfp4.png How's this? Drawn from scratch and used the following elements from other sources: Desktop background (from ROSFan) and icons from crystal clear. I'll get to an open window soon. ... i like it :-) the blue and the green both are very ...

One minor problem. There doesn't appear to be a Windows version, so we'd have to convert them over to the Windows icon format. Though this does look somewhat promising. However, I'm not sure if mf would care for this. why not just support .png icons alongside .ico icons? you'd instantly give yourse...

Re: advice
Dear kevintrooper, For example this: ... The black bar here is a clear almost 1:1 copy of the Vista bar shown here: ... Now lets say hypothetical that no one saw it and we all liked that design and used it in ReactOS. Then we would have given Microsoft yet another reason to sue ROS. can you make a ...

i don't really want to blatantly copy any version of windows (in terms of looks/desktop). that said however, i DO like the glass look and i do like dark colors (dark gray/slate, black, dark olive, dark blues) for the interface. personally i think a glass version of a dark olive would rule (especiall...

*ahem* Please merge your posts. Anyways, the OpenGL issue is long settled. We already know we can't rely on MS for OpenGL and no one in their right minds do. i do try but i don't most of the time primarily because of time. i don't know why you'd rebuff someone because they have multiple posts on a ...

I dont know who pointed you to dropping OpenGL support. Vista has multiple issues over their way of emulating OGL through DirectX. It would be madness to copy such scheme... MS has it on their website that do OpenGL via a wrapper to DirectX (ICD)--which would limit OpenGL use until a 3rd party driv...

Re: Vorg
I am glad that there are some people around that can see that there are flaws with the Windows paradigm, as there are with the Unix one, and want to work to solve them to make it a better experience for all of us. The fact that I have seen some positive reactions from several posters has motivated ...
