Re: I tested ReactOS on virtualbox

In the newest trunk build. Everything in the package manager is out of date. I installed opera 9. When I launched the browser it sent me to the update page. When I tried to upgrade to Opera 11, the installer hanged. I had to kill it in task manager. One feedback I would like is a better task manager...

Can't Install Guest Additions In ReactOS stable 3.14/trunk

I tried 3.14 in Virtualbox. When I install the guest additions and click mount, ReactOS hangs and I have to manually shut the VM down. Same thing happens in the newest trunk build. Upon rebooting I get a blue screen. I am running on a Toshiba Sattelite L675D-57104 With 4 gigs of ram. AMD Vision cpu ...

Re: My design concept

I actually liked it. It seemed like something I would use. Though I suppose everyone has their own tastes.

Re: OpenDX (Open Source Directx)

Hmmm, I'm not helping much at all. :(

Do any of you know about Gnustep? It supports windows. It might be good for creating mac like Apps for Reactos.

OpenDX (Open Source Directx)

Hiya, I found an open source Directx implementation. So far it's mostly made for linux but the devs here should be able to get a clue or two from the source code and use it to make an open source Directx compatibility layer for Reactos. Here's the link: http://opendx2.sourceforge.net/ Hope you all e...

Re: The Future Of The Reactos Package Manager

Ok, that's all I wanted to know. However that one post I saw telling users how to port programs to Reactos confused me, which is why I had to press the issue of what was going on? I didn't say that NT compatibility should be abandoned, the whole point is to have an open source OS that allows victims...

The Future Of The Reactos Package Manager

I'm interested in what plans are laid out for the Reactos Package manager. It's hard to imagine once again that Reactos will attain 100% compatibility when my Windows 7 can't install most windows programs that need .net framework. (Thus making it not 100% compatible) And many older programs won't in...

Re: ReactOS FTW (My suggestions for Reactos)

I just stated what I thought would make working with the registry easier. I wasn't trying to blame Microsoft or anything. I'm sorry if I gave you all that idea.

Re: Youtube Critics!

I have to mention that my windows 7 isn't even 100% compatible with windows software. You guys are over thinking this. The purpose of Reactos isn't for an opensource alternative to Windows that's compatible with windows software, it's purpose is to be an open source haven for refugees of windo...

Re: ReactOS FTW (My suggestions for Reactos)

Ps: Windows 7 is causing major glitches. Like? It forgets it's registered. Even if you already bought it. That internal glitch causes other glitches, especially while playing games or opening any default Windows 7 program. For instance I can't open Notepad properly because Windows 7 now says that I...

Re: ReactOS FTW (My suggestions for Reactos)

On linux I never complained about entering the root password. I think it's good for protecting your system. Not everything is password protected in linux though, for instance installation of .exe files in wine or rpms or debs. It's usually the package manager or other vital system processes that are...

ReactOS FTW (My suggestions for Reactos)

Before I begin my musing, let me first admit that I am not a programmer thus the following will not be of a technical nature. It is series of observations I've made which I want to share in hopes of really improving Reactos. Many people seem to be throwing around compatibility issues, and dreams of ...

Re: Youtube Critics!

You misunderstood my point. I didn't say that Reactos is a new type of OS, it is a new type of OS. Everyone here says it. Windows gave NTFS a very bad name. What my dream for Reactos (Which I pronounce, Reac-toes) Is for it to rid itself of alot of Microsoft's short comings. And help optimize NTFS a...

Re: Youtube Critics!

If Reactos is too much like windows, then it becomes Windows. Then viruses, spyware and Windows malfunctions aren't resolved. Reactos needs to find a middle ground and a stable plateau in which to fork from. 100% compatibility may not be realistic, because that would mean that antiviruses and antisp...
