Re: 0.4.13 in Real Steel doing real work.

Years ago, dizt3mp3r, you told me that if I lower my expectations, I wouldn't be disappointed. You were so right. Yes, that's the thing with ReactOS, don't expect too much, wait a year or two and you will always be pleasantly surprised. The same happened to me. I am currently in a waiting period as...

They way I see it, this leak has changed the prospect of a market-viable windows fork from a pipe-dream to 100% possible + an obvious path. What do you all think?
Read the ReactOS FAQ or the Forum code of conduct before engaging muscles that control hand and mouth movement here.

OK. I'm impressed. Probably the only real life online proof that ReactOS 'can' be used.

Re: Read this if you've found software useful to ReactOS

Not surprising. ReactOS is 10 years away, five at best until Alpha approaches an end. Why would anyone build a car from scratch (let alone as a kit car) when you can go out and get one that is identical and better, available now and so very cheaply, with no effort? In five years nearing beta the dev...

Re: 0.4.13 Testing

frustration with an alpha-stage Operating System is perfectly understandable—does anyone imagine that I haven’t yelled myself hoarse cursing ReactOS? On two consecutive nights (with 0.4.9) I woke the babies on Mars. But my temper erupts only at my ReactOS pc—never at the ReactOS team. Oh, gosh yes....

Re: 0.4.15 boot loads, completes, reboots, then hangs...

It appears that this system is too new to run XP. Please confirm as this is a base test for ReactOS too. Check internet or try it and see?

Read the ReactOS FAQ in full. https://reactos.org/wiki/ReactOS_FAQ

Note: ReactOS is not really ready for use as it is unstable at best.

Our fridge used to have the word S M E G boldly and proudly written on the front door. For me, it always meant "Doctor Bollocks old knob cheese".

Re: Two decades later...what's the point?

Having read -- and understood -- all that, yeah, but when is v0.5 arriving? Surely a Beta can't be too far away? You might think that but that would indicate a lack of understanding as to how utterly massive the task is. You could imagine that beta could be 5 years easily and not be wrong. Like the...

Re: Two decades later...what's the point?

I'm not sure whether it has been other people's experience but the newest builds tend to be more stable for me than the builds from years past. Oh yes, you'd be right in that assumption. ReactOS is making great strides recently. Development speed is increasing as interest gathers and that grows as ...

Re: Two decades later...what's the point?

It isn't being advertised as 'the' Windows alternative. It is being explained as having Windows application and driver compatibility with an accurate and familiar recreation of the classic GUI. I suggest you read the FAQ from top to bottom. It will enlighten you. A little research goes a long way an...

Re: some programs I would like to see in react os

Commercial apps like VB6 will not make their way into RAPPS as they need to be purchased before their media is obtained and installed. If you feel like writing an alternative to VB6 then you could ask that it be included into RAPPs but until then such commercially restricted apps will not appear in ...

Re: Are there any plans on writing a official ide for .net languages?

Note there are already plenty of alternatives editors that programmers can use but rewriting the whole IDE and environment? I think you underestimate the amount of work involved. It is a task that is probably the size of the the o/s itself. There will be nothing stopping you from creating such a pro...

Re: Are there any plans on writing a official ide for .net languages?

No. This project is about an open source operating system and not a general rewrite of all Microsoft products. Just because a product can run on windows does not make it an intrinsic part of Windows itself.

Re: Im Jahr 2025 ist Reactos "fertig"...

I've always assumed ROS will find its best home as client o/s in a VM running a single app or two, ReactOS possibly packaged with that app as a supporting o/s for legacy reasons. In that manner it will find a niche much sooner than on real hardware. By the time ROS is ready for real hardware that ol...
