Re: L4 went GPL

People can have absolute reliability. Assuming they're willing to pay millions of dollars per license seat and have something with the functionality of DOS. Or maybe Windows 3.1 at the very most. Oh and you can't use any of the applications you use right now because they'd be incompatible. I don't ...

Re: Drivers

 It's highly unlikely you missed the j/k... especially if you responded with the actual quote. There is a law for the internet (and any written media) that says very well crafted sarcasm is impossible to tell from actual, absurd, assertions. So, forgive me for making it obvious that you are b...

Re: source code understand

but these books is only understanding about how windows work but i want to understand coding of reactos source code. The first one is about understanding C code. You'd also need to understand C++ for some pieces. Then, you need to understand what the code wants to achieve, otherwise, there is no un...

Re: Drivers

The market has pretty much made clear that it is not willing to pay for the overhead of properly secure software. As a company, Microsoft needs to make money so it produces software that the market is willing to pay for at a cost the market is willing to bear. Luckily, we don't have such a requirem...

Re: FSF - priority-projects

GNU was only meant to be a Unix Actually GNU's Not Unix  and many of GNU packages run happily on other platforms. Even the kernel, heart of the OS, was supposed to be different, but things did not happened this way. So we got a more conservative-one, rather than a revolutionary-one. Is it ...

Re: FSF - priority-projects

I don't think they care about the architecture used, it's far more along the lines of what Z98 said. They are against proprietary software, and ReactOS is neutral about it, and one of the biggest reasons to use it is if you depend on some closed software that isn't ported (otherwise, you could theo...

Re: FSF - priority-projects

Also, even if the FSF would approve the project, it wouldn't be a priority for the FSF, as they don't really care about the actual architecture (they don't hate the Windows architecture, either), but they do care about having a working, free (as in speech) system. And that already exists, and there ...

Re: Google Ventures invests in Europe

You should first ask yourselves what does Google get by sabotaging ReactOS. As a company, they'll only do what they think will benefit them. ReactOS doesn't really compete with Google in any significant way, as ReactOS is aimed to desktops, while that's a fading market in Google's eyes (they evident...

Re: Simple, quick, and useful

I think this would be better handled in the wiki, kind of like the newbie projects in LibreOffice. I wouldn't underestimate the amount of information bloat a forum can get for these kind of things.
That would also help in ordering them by difficulty or required skillset.

Re: Office Suite? Lotus SmartSuite!

OK, er... I know enough to start this computer, light up my apps, connect the router, and print stuff. What's the difference between VM and virtualbox? Seriously, I'm ignorant. I need tuition in words of one or fewer syllables :) Is there a good uncomplicated resource URL? Gordon. VM is an i...

Re: Encrypt/decrypt files to fly

Yeah I hear that problem even occurs in EXT2/4. Quite frankly I also think this is something that shouldn't be imposed on the user. Though if NTFS has it I imagine ROS will inherit it anyway? One thing is having the feature that enables you to use, and another different thing is using it by default...

Re: Question

There was never any timeframe for the delivery of RCE, so it's not possible to say how much longer it will take to release with $25,141 worth of funding than if it had received $50,000. It's not possible to say how much longer it will take, but it's easy to see that less money means longer in this ...

Re: Question

Also keep in mind there was a restriction in the IGG project about which apps could be the focus, they must make no heavy use of 3D, as for it to be usable you need: - a complete, or near complete, implementation of at least DirectX9.0c or OpenGL 3.3, as most modern games take those as the minimum r...

Re: Question

You mean beta. It's already alpha. Nice spot. so the one you guys raised $25,141 not going to be released cause you guys didnt raised $50,000? Oh, so that's what you meant by "the new ReactOS"? The RCE? Yes, it's going to be released, but it's going to take more time than if the $50000 we...
