Welcome back AcetoliNe and thanks for explaining the concept to "mjs".
He seemed too stuck to his own view-point that it was hard to convince him :)

Also please see Acetoline's replies. There are some other quite valuable comments from others. We are pla...

DOS subsystem already dicussed in detail

Hello friends, I saw some recent post about DOS/win16 subsystems. I'd like to inform you that we already had a long discussion about the same topic. Please have a look at http://www.reactos.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=238 The above mentioned topic will clear most of the doubts about the approach to ta...

There was a book written about the internals of rxdos
I have that book on my desk right now :-) It is called "Disecting DOS"

But I think I'll use it as reference on and write my own code for ROS subsystem.

why don't have a look at

http://www.microwindows.org/

it is good for learning internals of a windowing system. You can study the code of microwindows as it is Open Source.

We I use Qemu for win32 and Qemu for Linux.

I find the Linux version better but win32 version is also usable. In fact, I tested my first ReactOS build on Qemu for Win32.

mf, you proposed a good idea. Something to think about and discuss further. Acetoline, SirTalon etc. replied with great suggestions. People who think, "whatever Microsoft does is right", are ignorant. They have done somethings right and other things wrong. This whole ".ext" (3 le...

Actually, if ReactOS DOS subsystem is properly implemented, it will be able to run most of the dos applications. In that case, it you boot ReactOS in "No GUI" mode, you'll be as good as booting in dos mode (Not exactly but because DOS subsystem can still run the DOS apps and as Acetoline s...

the best solution is Virtual Real Mode, because it is the way Windows implements DOS I agree that Virtual Real Mode seems to be the right choice. Not because windows does it this way but because it will save a lot of time on x86. ReactOS is almost usabale and DOS subsystem work has still not starte...

I don't think linux bashing is any useful for us. ReactOS is good and has bright future. As everybody said before, it has potential of becoming desktop of masses. But Linux is my current desktop and I am grateful to OSS community for providing such a wonderful system. Linux is great as a developer's...
