Re: Compatibility Concerns: Running ReactOS on Intel Core i7 Laptop Hardware?
Let me be frank: modern virtualization tools give you a "performance penalty" of about 2-3%, sometimes less, of bare metal. In exchange, you get… EVERYTHING. Every piece of virtual hardware they can emulate. For 2-3% more speed, do you really want the headaches? You decide!

Re: What is ReactOS currently useful for?
Well, franky, what is the purpose of the L4 microkernel family? What is the purpose of NetBSD? What is the purpose of FreeDOS? What's the point of Boticelli's paintings, if I don't have one in my room? — You can say, the expression of creativity is purpose in and of itself, it leads to experience if...

Jokes aside, though: you might actually consider placing a donation-button on the webpage, e.g. the way Arduino does it - this is where it navigates you to if you just want to download it: https://www.arduino.cc/en/donate/ I know you on ReactOS.org have a button "Donate" NEXT TO "Down...

decompile the hell out of a software and write a documentation. so what you are asking about is software that could decompile a dll or whatever and write comment tags that explain what the piece of code does? This is not only "practically difficult", this is truly "theoretically impo...

Re: Why the negativity everywhere?
Well, 1944 was perhaps not the best year to internationally propagate Wagner operas and Goethe's works, either, so I am with EmuandCo that "the times" are not helpful in the advertisement. About it being a "Russian" project - not true if you look at the developers, however, React...

Because they haven't had a release in over two years and, counting since 0.1.0, the first version installable from CD, they have been "in alpha status" for over two decades.

Thank you. So my take is, "zero USB network adapters work out of the box". As in, NONE. Well, that is an answer, too...

USB network card?
Hi everybody! So, I tried a nightly of a day ago, and I loved it — on real hardware, an old AMD Athlon 64 3000+ / 2 GB machine. Only gripes I was having: I had no network and my USB bluescreened on me. Now, without going into too much detail: Is there such a thing like a recommended USB network adap...

On 8th April 2014, mainstream support for Windows XP ended. One may say, whoever "disliked" the newer OSes... one way or another, during the last DECADE, "got over it", whether by switching or enduring.

Feel free to ask him. We won't. We have no big interest in money and losing our reputation completely for it. This. And having "Russians" on the project is a very different affair from having "present-day Russia" on the project - this is a software project, not a political proje...

Being actually a lawyer, let me tell you: there is what „is“, and there is „what you can prove“. And unless you have a couple tenthousand Euro for expert opinions in cases of doubt (even if you win), the best idea is to stick to such approaches which you can prove immediately and easily (German: liq...

Simplification of instructions, faster execution and cheaper chips. Itanium is incomparable - Intel sought "to force the industry" (and previously with the Intel iAPX 432, originally called 8800 in reference to 8080 and 8008, the "stopgap" to which being the 8086, and the rest is...

Hi everyone, Transitioning to 64 bit may indeed become more of a topic in the not too far away future — look at this: https://www.techspot.com/news/98773-intel-proposes-x86-s-architecture-simpler-more-efficient.html Unless, of course, one is fine with this being a "VM only OS", as likely w...

+1 for the telemetry idea! Make it "opt-in" (not: "opt-out") and you are "safe". Best would be if there would be some automatic reporting on "how and why something crashed". It would surely help to have a "real-world-view" at least on the statistical...

Yeah, but HOW will that money be used? "Upkeep of the website" does not accelerate development. To fund a couple dozen developers for a five years? Abjectly insufficient. To "create prizes"? Like, you reach X or Y and get 200/500/1000 EUR? Possible, and will give around a 100 &qu...
