Re: ReactOS Future cross-compatibility

Forget about becoming Vista & 7 & 8 compatible. A steady target is always easier to hit than one that keeps moving. ReactOS can not keep up with Microsoft.

If 11 years of XP isn't enough to let ReactOS catch up, then how in the world are they supposed to catch Windows 7?

Sinking Into Oblivion

Hello, I am quite concerned to see the lack of interest in my Google searches about ReactOS. Here I find out that version 0.3.12 has been released, and there is hardly any comment on the web about this. OSNews and Phoronix have tiny little comments about it and there is not much more to be found I a...

Great News!

I was just scanning OSNews when I found an article about Arwiness or however you spell it... Hey, whatever takes this OS to a Beta state faster works for me. Better to have an imperfectly compatible OS that boots up and is stable, than to worry about making it perfectly compatible and still unstable...

Which version of Windows would you pull the DLLs from? XP? 2000?

Re: 1.0.0 ETA

I think the following responses answer my question best. It's going to be a while yet until this is done so I am going to stop holding my breath for now. steveh My crystal sphere shows that Reactos 1.0.0 will most likely be rolled out around April 5, 2014, just in time to replace the uncounted "...

Re: 1.0.0 ETA

If the project is going to take 10-15+ years as you mentioned Nintendo Maniac 64, then a lot of people - including me - will stop holding their breath.

Re: 1.0.0 ETA

I know I may get flack, but it's not my intention to cause grief. I just think it may take some of the pressure off the developers if the general public have a more realistic view of just how much longer this project will take to reach version 1.0.0. It will also help people to plan what they are go...

1.0.0 ETA

Hey all, I just wanted to start a friendly thread - not a criticism thread - asking the developers when they estimate ReactOS will reach version 1.0.0. I know that no one knows for sure, and there are always delays. But I think it would be interesting for everyone who follows the project to have an ...

Re: It's 5th 10.2009. Where's 0.4.2?

Brilliant post! I agree 100% Deadlines are, in my view, a part of elementary self-discipline. If you do not keep deadlines, it means you do not pay any regard to your users and developers. If you are not transparent about the development, same thing. The only real difference between a commercial pro...

Re: Why ROS will not work on NTFS/ZFS/Reiser4/whatever right now

The most important thing is to get ROS to work properly on one file system. Adding more and more things to be included just slows down the project. Get ROS to work with the absolute basics (fat and a simple appearance) and then concentrate on other file systems and making it look pretty, etc.. That'...

Re: Virtual PC with ReactOS 0.3.8 : ok

This isn't a fault with Microsoft; Virtual PC works fine with Windows. There's a problem with our drivers, notably the serial port driver.
My quote was sarcasm. Microsoft has a history of blocking the competition.

Re: Free Operating Systems That Aren't Linux

It is neat that they mention ReactOS. 8) Yep, but the review sounds negative. They make it sound more negative than even HaikuOS which is ridiculous. Why do people waste their time coding operating systems like HaikuOS? Code Linux or better yet code ReactOS! There is so much open-source ability it'...

Re: Virtual PC with ReactOS 0.3.8 : ok

Hi everybody, Just an interesting info for who'd like to test : ReactOS 0.3.8 now works with Microsoft Virtual PC. The keyboard driver works well ; the mouse driver, however, seems to be crippled (pointer moves but with some lag). Tarnyko Microsoft better patch this right away! This just isn't like...
