Re: reactos build environment not working in windows (xp)

Thanks @hbelusca and @middings for your answers about wmic.exe Reading in your posts that the root problem is the missing "wmic.exe" in XP home, i now tried compiling reactos with RosBE 2.1.1 on win8.1 evaluation. It works. Possibly i will later also try the solution of copying the reactos...

reactos build environment not working in windows (xp)

On a regular base, i compile the reactos trunk under linux with no problem (RosBE 2.1.1) In the past, before reactos was using ninja for build environment, i also compiled sometimes on xp with no problem. today i gave the windows RosBE 2.1.1 with ninja a try: cd reactos configure.cmd (configure writ...

Re: Why is it taking so long?

@DOSGuy
but you have to type arguments into the input box as though you were using DOS(!!!).
OMG!
i did not even know that search option combinations exist in vista / 7 (usable that complicated way).

about Win2003 / or Vista+7

In Vista and Win7 it is always possible to set a classic desktop style. And choice of a thin or large taskbar. So the Vista and 7 can be configured for a 95% XP lookalike. Only Luna style is not included in Vista / 7. And what i miss after XP EOS: the windows search in XP was quite comfortable and c...

Re: Reactos 0.4 will be released in Q1 of 2014 ?

Dec. 6th has nothing to do with the american invention of Santa Claus. Its the day of saint Nicholas. And no, that Friday we don't release anything except some more daily builds. ² Oh sorry, then i mismatched something. I thought "Santa Claus" were just an american name spelling fo...

Reactos 0.4 will be released next Friday?

:?: 8-)
reactos 0.4 will be released by Santa Claus two days ahead, Friday 6 this week?

Indeed, Friday December 6, 2013 is the last schedule of Santa Claus day, before the funerals of windows XP in April 2014.

negative sideeffects of EOS XP upon Reactos

ReactOS current target is NT5.2 / Win2003 In april 2014 Win XP and Win2003 will be EOS (end of support). As far as i remember the situation of Win2000 after it's EOS in July 2010, of course it was usable later, at limited or no risk if behind a good firewall and even online as long as outdatet IE 6 ...

what are these two distinct 0.3.15 branches?

Hi, maybe my questions are slightly redundant due to my lack of following this forum on daily base, but i am curious why in svn list "svn://svn.reactos.org/reactos/branches" there are two 0.3.15 branches ros-branch-0_3_15-lt2013 current is Repository UUID: 97493ccd-5924-5043-b1f5-66cb403b3...

Re: NT 6.1 Like Design :)

I am clearly in favour of transparency. It gives reactos a modern and beautiful look.
Is it currently possibly to install a transparent theme on a trunk version?

Re: Should ReactOS rather focus on NT 3.1 compatibility firs

NO very bad idea going back to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_NT_3.1 Where would you find software and drivers running on such outdated kernel, today? Even NT5.2 is approaching closer and closer the end-of-extended-support of WinXP, and possibly decreasing NT5.x support by application softwar...

Re: ReactOS 0.3.15

According to "SVN list", reactos0.3.15 has not yet been branched. So i suppose it is not yet mature for the next version branching... According to my glass sphere, next version will certainly not be 0.4, there will be a 0.3.15 and 0.3.15 would possibly be ready at end of january 2013. :D 0...

Re: Suggestion to grow the userbase

I think "ova" (for virtualbox) and "vmdk" (for vmware) images ready for use are are very good idea. As the reactos project did in the past with a ready-to-use qemu image. What about the qemu virtualizer itself? No longer quite common and popular any more? Such images exist here: ...

Re: older versions of NT as a target for development?

With very old windows versions like NT3.x or NT4 there is one problem: lack of application software. But application sofware outdated versions are unsafe because unsupported by security updates. Example: after december 2012 when firefox 10.x LTS will be phased out, there will be no secure firefox fo...
