Re: OOBE for ReactOS

Not needed. Everyone installing ReactOS already knows enough to navigate GUI, thanks to ubiquity.

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

Cygwin and MSYS2 are not binary compatible with Linux. Also, I know that WSL 2 uses virtualization via Hyper-V. I don't know if ReactOS already has native virtualization, and if it does I guess there can be a way to implement ENIW using a real Linux kernel or an implementation similar to coLinux. My...

Re: Possibilities For NTVDM and other Sub-Systems

WSL 2 is now ready for release. ENIW needs more developers before it becomes too late (MSFT open-sources Windows).

Re: In the event Microsoft decides to open source Windows

The imdemnified we that h. shunesburg mentions excludes the original listener, not the speaker itself.
This kind of fourth person is very common in Austronesian languages.

Re: In the event Microsoft decides to open source Windows

Because Windows is not their primary business anymore. Azure and Office are.

Re: In the event Microsoft decides to open source Windows

We will benefit by mutual code sharing between open-source Windows and ReactOS. And revive some of the lost parts of compatibility in Windows.

Re: In the event Microsoft decides to open source Windows

I mean we the ReactOS developers, not we the ReactOS Project.

Re: In the event Microsoft decides to open source Windows

FSF has invited Microsoft to open source Windows 7: Since its launch on January 24th, we've had an overwhelming amount of support in our call to "upcycle" Windows 7. Truthfully, the signature count flew far faster than we ever expected it to, even despite our conservative (if aptly numbered) goal o...

Re: Appreciation to Developers

When Windows is detected, "convert" should appear instead of "update".

Re: ReactOS updater

Microsoft, unlike Intel, keeps available the downloads of unsupported updates around for a long time.

Re: ReactOS updater

I don't know if Windows Update is the only thing that needs BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer Service).
ReactOS and Windows updaters are not required to be compatible, as you are not allowed to pick and choose parts to mix and match.

Anyone attending to "I am system" talk?

They discussed a security vulnerability, getting SYSTEM access on Windows. Unable to access recordings. Anyone attending this CCC talk?

Re: SAMBA, Cygwin, and appcompat

Is the ultimate goal being functional and API compatible, or being indistinguishable including replicating major vulnerabilities that were ultimately eliminated It is something between the two, according to previous discussions. The problem is we just do not know how much we can modify or extend Wi...
