Re: my thoughts
I think Patents are the biggest chunk in the pie. Not really. Biggest problem with patents is using them. Standard + hidden patents effective. Patents with no force for people to use the patented method are basically worthless since people can just find other ways of doing the same thing. Working l...

Re: my thoughts
Nute MS open sourcing windows is not going to happen any time soon. If requesting worked we would have open source OS/2 Warp. Changing copyright will not change software monopolies. Demanding standards is the only way to allow competition to exist. People like to forget XP first of MS products to be...

Bootchart support Reactos is it possable?
http://www.bootchart.org/images/bootchart.debian.mcrae.1.png Bootchart has been extremely useful for altering what boots where to get higher cpu and disk usage in system startups to equal shorter boot times. Bootchart as also displayed how much of a issue kernel locking defects in Linux has been. Th...

Re: NTFS-3G: Read-Write Open Source Linux NTFS FUSE Driver
Sand almost all Fuse file systems like ZFS in fuse are Posix and Unix device struct interface related. So are nothing more than paper weights under Windows versions of fuse even if the fuse api works perfectly. I guess you want to know why the posix fuse filesystems that work cross platform on Linux...

Re: Will ReactOS run Linux apps?
Gobusto none of us have a crystal ball. Reactos is a NT design os what is a subsystem designed OS. So yes in theory it can run other OS's programs by creating a subsystem as Windows NT use to do with OS/2 applications. Does NT struct's suit running Linux/posix applications well no it does not. Lot o...

Re: Will ReactOS run Linux apps?
Depends on what you class as native.
colinux most likely will be got running in Reactos.
Building a complete posix and the structs linux applications will expect is a pain. I will not say it will never happen but I will say the odds of it happening are extremely rare.

Re: ReactOS on an Ext2/3 partition (instead of NTFS)
Minor correction Fuse kinda needs Posix like OS to work well. Fuse exists for a lot of OS's http://fuse.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/OperatingSystems Note a few windows ones are listed there. Big problem lot of Fuse user space filesystem drivers also expect a Posix like OS so not one of the few di...

Re: Desktop environment for Linux
Sand it really does not include its own windows manager. You really don't understand what you are looking at. The 3 modes of wine. Next 3 quote codeweavers crossover manual but they are the same in wine same code better written in closed source manual. Managed Ordinary top-level frame windows with t...

Re: Desktop environment for Linux
Sand I would not recommend that ever. Number 1 wine explorer does not have freedesktop intergration so does not pick up Linux applications menu entries or linux applicaton mine interfaces by default. Number 2 does not draw the boarders of windows that a wm is required to do in X11. There is no simpl...

Re: Desktop environment for Linux
This idea show a lack of understanding of the difference between Linux Windows Managers and Windows Shells. I am sorry to say there are a long list of incompatibilities running a shell even inside wine to control X11 applications is not even practical. Little things like icon sizes don't even line u...

Re: Remove foolish posts
I have been here a long time just like Z98 I have some posts I wish never happened. Now would I delete them if I could. No. Few major reasons. If I know I can rewrite history why would I have to be more careful not to do that again. Just like lots of us here have stuffed up so we will forgive most c...

Its SWT C++ for windows not ported to other platforms yet. And D is also native D.
I think SWT usage inside reactos still would be the same as using C++ special case needed.

Re: Is the use of the KDE4 base a good idea for the next shell?
Haos. KDE 4 on windows is not that much slower than at lot of other applications on windows. Particularly other ones built with the Visual Studio C++ wrapper around the windows api. Ok wrapper less programs faster. Mem usage expand is basically equal from Visual Studio C++ wrapper and using QT. So n...

SdC current stuff like EEE and so on is just the lead up. The war I am talking about is nothing like the lead up. Currently its MS vs Mac vs Some devices makers. The one I am talking about will see a true war break out between Linux Distributions to be last one standing. Remember currently each dist...
