Re: Cumulative Virtual Memory as a physical RAM for VM
Thanks @middings for the tech links. Quite an interesting reading. So, it conclude that is I want a 4GB virtual memory, I have to use 5MB physical RAM and around 4.5GB of mass storage in a dummy x86 Protective Mode Virtual Machine to make the thing works. That could be possibly managed. My concern i...

Re: Intel processor design flaw requiring ROS kernel mode ch
AMD and Intel Prediction feature never been stable from the beginning. The only processor that solidly stable with Prediction feature is Cyrix. I heard the last Cyrix CPU tech was owned by VIA, Would VIA chip could stand Meltdown and Spextre attack? Anyone had HP netbook with VIA processor probably ...

Re: secure-delete on ReactOS
I used to delete file(s) in windows with [Shift]+[Delete] keys combination to make it space available for overwritten. It can't be restore from Recycle Bin because it will not to be stored there and deleted instantly. If you could in-cooperate Secure Delete with the same manner and working silently ...

Cumulative Virtual Memory as a physical RAM for VM
Please bare with me on this one. I can't shake it off this scenario from my mind today. A Physical 1MB in a x86 machine could create sum of 4GB virtual memory when it's entering a 32 bit protected mode environment. What if we take these 4GB virtual memory and attach it into a Virtual Machine as a ph...

I think there is still a solution to protect your data by banking them into Bay Trail and Cherry Trail devices (laptops, phones, compute stick and tablets). Those Intel Atom PCs are selling cheap now for the stock clearance in a month or two. I wish ReactOS would boot on these Intel Atom tablet in t...

Re: roadmap and priorities
I think development priorities in Open Source project were not even priority in it's daily operations. But, the priorities could be influenced by the progress of it's community activities and contributions. The Financial support, development resources, testing group and feedback are the thing we use...

Re: Virtual Device Driver Framework
It makes me wonder what if ROS do the other way around by adopting all those Android drivers. It would make ROS has more devices to play with especially the hardware accelerations.justincase wrote:...(think wine-style translate and pass to core functions)...

Virtual Device Driver Framework
Is there any possibility to in cooperate some kind of a Virtual Device Driver Framework into ROS to use Win7, Win8 or Win10 drivers. Device Drivers is hardly developed by any other developer than the device manufactures. Without device drivers ROS seem stuck in the moment to progress in hardware com...

I'm not sure whether QtWeb web browser will work in ROS LiveCD environment. But it work under WinPE, portable and small footprint that support HTML5.

Re: major regression
VPC2007 for WinXP give me a peace of mind by burning bootable ISOs that only work for the real hardware to blank CDs. It save me time and avoid wasted CD blanks. Just don't tell Linuxes Distro makers about this secret or you'll be surprised when suddenly you heard old hardware come back alive runnin...

Re: major regression
Anything does not boot under VPC2007 for WinXP or XP VM will not boot on most of the real hardware. Even VPC2007 for Win7 is already breaking the real hardware compatibility. So, it need to satisfy VPC2007 for WinXP boot requirement to support the past, the present and possibly the future of x86 har...

ReactOS Custom PE and Safemode
Has anyone in the community working on this subject? I guess the Customize PE will be very much closer to LiveCD which is running from memory. Mostly, customized for portable environment that boot from removable media with set of utilities. While Safemode, a clean environment without services except...

Re: System utilities on ROS
ps - ROS project should be redefined not as Binary compatible, but as a Core and it's Environment compatible to the NT OS. Why should we??! Because what has been produced so far, was more than what was claimed as a binary and driver compatible. ROS should have it's own UI and it's own API architect...

Re: System utilities on ROS
... regarding installs from MS CD, the legality of such actions may be questionable in some countries... I think sooner or later, it will be out of question about it when ROS adding "Add/Remove components" from it's own installation CD. Surely, some attempt will be made to visualize MS CD...

Re: System utilities on ROS
I would like to suggest a controversial idea for ROS developers to develop a section of it's Control Panel tab able to read and install utilities from WinXP, Win2K3 and/or Win2K installation CD. That said, it also able to install drivers from those CD any driver that needed by the hardware hosting R...
