ReactX

I'm looking at wikipedia's page about DirectX : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX I know GreatLord is working very hard on ReactDraw/React3D (thank you !). What is the plan for the other ones (ReactInput ReactSound,ReactMusic,ReactPlay,ReactX Media and ReactX Media Objects) ? With Vista it seems ...

Reactos sound system

While I can see a lot of improvements in DirectDraw/Direct3d (thank you Greatlord, your work is much appreciated, keep on going, I can wait the day I'll launch 3dmark2001 under windows in the future and see how it will blast XP  ), I rarely even hear about ReactOS sound system. Is this because...

Would you say the users on this forum are a good cross section of the people who will use ReactOS? Looking at the poll results, you'll notice the number of people who don't want notepad++ outweigh the number of people who do by about 3 to 1. True. But my opinion is that the work on reactos notepad ...

The problem with Reactos is the target audience. Most people here seem to think that first target will be the average Joe. I'm sorry guys, but this won't happen, no chance a guy like this is going to even think about installing a new OS... :( Only geeks and so on will install reactos on real hardwar...

Optimized builds

Yesterday while reading one of GvG posts about Reactos optimization, I realized that contrary to let's say Windows XP, it was possible to have a ReactOS version optimized with SSE(1,2,3,4,...)/3Dnow instruction. Kind of what has been done by a guy with Firefox builds. I'm not knowledgable at all in ...

Yes, I hadn't see that... Too bad. Why can't people put everything under GPL... :(

Task switching

I'm going on with my review of open source codes that might be integrated under reactos. Here is a light open source application which doesn't do a lot of thing, but does it well : it's a task switcher. There are a few problems with switching between tasks under Windows XP, and if, like me, you have...

Re: New User - Cringly unreliable

it is so bad it's un-useable. It is usable. I can write things with Abiword. What ? That's not what you wanted to do ? You wanted sound and directx hardware acceleration for Far Cry ? Just don't tell me you've downloaded something and you didn't know what it did...cause you wouldn't complain there ...

What we can do before the new code is out !

There are a lot of things I think, but the devs can correct me if I'm wrong. - Interface design : icons, wallpapers, sounds, ReactOS skins for different programs (winamp, foobar, windowblinds, ...) - ROS explorer : as far as I know it has nothing to do with the kernel code or whatever needs to be ch...

Yes please, make the database available even if beta. This could help to identify regressions as well as giving tips to make some particular applications work.

I agree on the fact that something like Directory Opus is cluterred (though to be true you can reconfigure the whole interface) and may frighten some new user, while Xplorer2 is more Windows friendly. I was not thinking of adding so many things anyway, at least not many visible (put everything in an...

File manager replacement ?

Ok, everyone is speaking about the shell, shell replacements, windows skinning, etc. But what about the file manager ? Needless to say it's one of the most important part of an OS feel. Windows is not really known for the quality of its file manager (when you copy/paste several huge files under wind...
