Re: Windows NT Independent

The most apparent issue is a version of Windows API subset which we can/are going to apply. Obviously the reason why some apps are Vista only (or in future, Win7 only) is the API functions they use, are only implemented by a newer version of OS. We are atm targetting Vista API subset and we`ll obvi...

Re: 64-Bit PC

In general, most any game you buy these days will be optimized for 32-bit. It may get recompiled with a few tweaks for 64-bit as a special edition, but over all, it's still a 32-bit program. There are a couple of linux programs, VDR and MythTV. These programs are in source code and you compile on yo...

Re: Potential problem

Yes it did reinstall dx over dx because at that time, there was a quark that the video driver needed to be reinstalled after DX anytime dx was reinstalled and the video drivers had to be reinstalled after. And there are always going to be lazy programmers that don't care where they dump their crap. ...

Re: Potential problem

Civ 4 was one of those that installed DX over a working and up to date dx without asking during install.

You can't depend on people to do what they are suposed to.

Potential problem

While looking through the truespace forums, something was mentioned that could be a problem for ReactOS installs. They where talking about putting Truespace on a Usb drive to move between computers and one of the comments was the other computer may not have the redistributables or up to date DX. I h...

Re: Does the internet work?

I tried FireFox 3 windows version and it seems like crap compaired to v2. Thrashed my hard drive at nearly every page for 15-30 seconds. And even after it settled down, with in a minute or so latter the drive would start up again on some pages even though there were no adds or anything that would ne...

Re: ROS from a Boot Drive?

You can get usb sticks 4gig+ for under $20. They also have IDE and maybe sata adapters for compact flash cards. http://www.memorydepot.com/ssd/index.asp
So Install the main OS to something like that and put swap and temp folders which change a lot on HD. Should give a really fast booting system.

Re: ReactOS 0.3.5 delayed...

If you don't post an "ETA" of some kind then instead of "will it be on time" or "it's late", you get "what is the release date?". I have been in a lot of beta games and when devs try not to say when there is a big push for them to give a date. It's a no win. P...

Re: Article about ReactOS at PCMagazine

One of the more advanced (non-free versions) handled windows install mess by simply giving them their own branch of the directory tree. When you install, it would get it's own windows folder, reg, etc to do with as it liked and it couldn't mess with any other program or the OS. Uninstalling was as s...

Vorg: how much do you know about NT? Is there anything apart from what you`ve been told by Penquinistas? Registry is at least safe from unauthorized off-system access, unlike ETC, that can be easily edited from NT running proper IFS driver. Is safe from being fixed when it gets screwed up and just ...

No way! the registry is the worst part of windows. It makes all forms of maintance a PTA. You can no longer just move programs to another place on your drive like you could with dos and you can't really even upgrade/redo your OS without a FULL reinstall of every bit of software. With dos you could j...
