PS/2 is more popular, so you have an alternative, well, 2 including serial.
Considering there is no alternative to networking, I would say that is 
more important.

USB is however very close, it just isn't a priority for 0.3.0.
I'm not saying it won't be ready for 0.3.0, just that it isn't a 
prerequisite.

This is still very much pre-alpha software thus it's still only aimed at 
developers, testers and enthusiasts. If USB is the only option you have, 
then you should use a virtual machine until it's ready. I'm pretty sure 
all mobo's still include PS/2 ports though, so if you were that intent 
on using ROS right now, you can always pick up a mouse for a couple of 
dolars.

That being said, USB keyboard and mouse was working in HEAD when I tried 
it today :)
