What about pluggable and user-editable messages?

You could also move all funny messages into resource strings
and using a new language "SUBLANG_ENGLISH_FUN" to
separate them from the standard messages.
Setup just has to ask "Do you want to have funny messages?".
By setting the default language to the FUN sublanguage the
funny message sets are activated.
